Causes of QBDBMgrN not running on this computer

You might sometimes run into issues while switching the server to multi-user mode or accessing the data file on the workstations due to a malfunction in the Database Server Manager. The possible causes of DBSM failing to start during multi-user network setup are mentioned below-

  • The transaction log file is damaged and DBSM develops issues when it fails to run it during multi-user network setup.

  • Multiple workstations running in the multi-user mode can also cause the DBSM to stop running.

  • Antiviruses or Windows firewall blocking the DBSM files or background processes can also cause it to stop working.

Steps to fix QuickBooks Database Server Manager not running

You won’t be able to establish the multi-user network without DBSM running in the background. The methods to prevent DBSM issues while sharing the data file are mentioned below-

Solution 1- Repair the transaction log file before setting up the multi-user network

Transaction log file contains all the transactions stored in the company file and can be used in place of the data file if necessary. Database Server Manager runs this file during multi-user network setup to share the financial data among all the workstations. In case DBSM fails to process the .tlg file, the network crashes instantly, and you might run into company file errors (6XXX series), too. You must also ensure that only the server computer runs in multi-user mode and the workstations use single-user mode. Use the following steps to mend your transaction log file-

  • Open your QB folder on a file explorer and right-click the .tlg file you find inside it.

  • Select the Rename option and add ‘.old’ as an extension to the file name without changing anything else.

  • Save the file and try running the DBSM.

  • Go to the Scan Folders tab if it opens and enters the location where you renamed the transaction log file.

  • Click Start Scan and wait until all the files are scanned.

Solution 2- Restart your DBSM processes

QuickBooks DBSM can also malfunction if its background processes get blocked by the antivirus or other security programs installed on your PC. You must remove QBDBMgrN.exe and QBDBMGr.exe from their quarantine list and turn the antiviruses off while sharing the company file. Use these steps-

  • Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to launch the task manager on your system.

  • Navigate to the Processes tab and select QBDBMgrN.exe or QBDBMgr.exe.

  • Tap the End Task option to stop the processes and reopen QBDT.
